100th Reunion 2022
The Micum McIntire Clan Association’s 100th Clan Association Anniversary Reunion
in Maine and New Hampshire August 6, 2022
The 100th reunion of the Micum McIntire Clan Association was held in York, Maine on Saturday, August 6, 2022. The morning program and meeting was held in the York-Ogunquit United Methodist Church. About 90 clan members, family, and friends were present. Following the traditional acknowledgements of who had come the farthest (San Diego, CA), the youngest (6 yrs. old), and the oldest (96) clan members present, the Council distributed awards and acknowledged several members who had served the Association. Longest serving was R. Malcolm Davis, who had served the clan for 53 years. Others honored included Janet Conroy, Dan Davis, Sally Turner, Kathleen Turner, and Caryl Mcintire Edwards. A booklet summarizing the 100 years of the clan association and its reunions was distributed, and can be ordered through the Gift Shop on the MMCA website.
Following the business meeting, a troupe of Scottish dancersfrom the Stiles School of Scottish Dance performed, and then engaged numerous members present in a lesson in energetic Scottish dance (despite the heat and humidity). Following the morning meeting, members adjourned to Fosters Clambake for lobster, BBQ chicken, lemonade, air conditioning, and other delights.
Beginning around 3 p.m., many members took a bus out to the 1690s Maxwell-Mcintire Garrison in Scotland District along the York River, where they were greeted by a piper. It was hot and muggy, but shade from the adjacent 19th century cider house and blessedly moderating breezes allowed it to be comfortable. After the ceremonial planting of a new horsechestnut tree along the foundation of a former western addition on the garrison, there was a brief presentation on the history of the Garrison building. This was followed by tours of the building and a nearby family cemetery. The day was completed by the singing and playing (piper) of the Macintyre March, and distribution of Hieland coo cupcakes celebrating the 100th Anniversary. The day ended as it had begun, with a rousing cry of “Cruachan!”
On Sunday, August 7, many clan members took a harbor ride on a gundalow (an historic river vessel) on the Piscataqua River in Portsmouth. Again, the sea breezes kept the worst of the heat at bay, and the crew was informative and entertaining. At the mouth of the river, those assembled were led in sea shanties by members of the crew. Back on land, President Jan Maier and others sang a version of “Song for the Dunbar Soldiers” by the Brothers Gillespie.

It is time for an IN-PERSON, 100th ANNIVERSARY Reunion! This is our time to…
- Renew old acquaintances,
- Greet new family from all over the country,
- Learn more about our amazing Scottish heritage,
- Enjoy some delicious New England cuisine, (think Foster’s Lobster!)
- Tour the old McIntire/Maxwell Garrison House in the Scotland District just outside York,
- Pose for a group photo,
- Enjoy some old-fashioned McIntire storytelling, and
- Participate in the annual business meeting!
We will have our annual meeting and some entertainment Saturday morning, August 6th, at the York-Ogunquit United Methodist Church*, about 2 miles north of York. We will celebrate our first 100 years (and peek at the next 100!). We will also be honoring our elders .
Lunch will be a catered feast at Foster’s Clambake in York. Then, we will carpool to the McIntire-Maxwell Garrison on Route 91 just west of York for a group photo and tour.
Participants are encouraged to continue socializing over dinner on their own and those who wish can carry on the Scottish ceilidh tradition with music-making and merriment at a local York pub.
There are many local historical and other attractions in southern ME/NH for visitors to explore on Sunday, including a harbor cruise on gundalow, a replica of boats used in Micum’s time, and the historical village Strawbery Banke in Portsmouth. We can charter a gundalow cruise if we get 20 people for Sunday morning. It will be so wonderful to reconnect in person and to welcome new members!
Of course we’re hoping that Covid will be controlled by that time with vaccinations, masks, and social distancing. Our venues may require masks but we won’t know until closer to the date. We encourage all to be fully vaccinated.
Reservation form and further information is forthcoming to you via U.S. Mail. Be sure to watch for it.
Your Clan Council is looking forward to seeing you in August!
*The church for the annual meeting has ability to allow people to Zoom into the meeting, so if you can’t make it, you can still participate by Zoom video conferencing.

All descendants of Micum McIntire, Philip McIntire (Micum’s brother), Robert Junkins (Micum’s best friend), and MacIntyres of every variety, as well as anyone interested in the lives of the Scottish prisoners of wars sent to New England in 1650-51, are invited to attend the 100th Reunion festivities. You do not need to be a member of the Clan Association to attend (though we encourage you to join), just interested.
