The Association

Formed in 1917, the Association is composed of the descendants of Micum McIntire (Malcolm MacIntyre), a Scottish prisoner of war captured with his brothers Philip and Robert at the Battle of Dunbar on September 3, 1650. They survived weeks of abuse, imprisonment, starvation, and disease, and then with 150 other prisoners were transported across the north Atlantic in winter to the New England colonies, where they served out 6-8 year indentures before becoming free and beginning new lives. Micum settled in York, Maine around 1668-70.

The Association is dedicated to researching, preserving, and publishing information about his life and those of his descendants. The most definitive and comprehensive current source for information on MacIntyres in general is the newly-published book, “Clan MacIntyre: A Journey Into the Past,” Martin L. MacIntyre, Regent Press, Berkeley, CA, 2018, second edition. Copies may be purchased by contacting Martin at martin.macintyre@juno.com.

The Descendents of Micum McIntire

The definitive geneaology is “Descendants of Micum McIntire,” Robert Harry McIntire, revised edition, 1983, now available through our online store (Click here). This is often referred to as the “Red Book” among Micum descendants because of its bright red cover. Used copies can still be obtained from time to time through online booksellers.

The Micum McIntire Clan Association is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization. A copy of the association’s bylaws, adopted in 1973, is available by clicking here.
